Since 1986 we have been working to recover the memory of the people who resisted the fascist during the war. Since then, there have been multiple books, documentaries, talks, exhibitions, research papers and tributes that we have carried out.
Today we continue to demand truth, justice, reparation and guarantees of non-repetition. Our objective is to join forces with other associations that share similar values, therefore, we participate in the Basque Platform in favor of the Complaint against the crimes of Franco regime.
Being aware that repression and dictatorships entail gender specificities, with different impacts, we give a voice to silenced women in the official story, recovering and disseminating collective memory with the aim of achieving a common, equitable and inclusive History.

ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT BY INTXORTA 1937 KULTUR ELKARTEA:

• 1986 – The Oktubre Taldea group is created in Arrasate and begins to work for the recovery of the memory of our country. 1st exhibition in Arrasate.
• 1987 – Publication of the book Arrasate 1936. A Generation Cut. The names of 89 people shot were placed on a wall in Legarre. (Without any help from the Administration)
• 1998 – Exhibition in Bergara
• 2002-2004 – Together with the Aranzadi group, two graves are found, one in Arrasate and the other one in Elgeta.
• 2003 – In collaboration with the Association of Relatives of Shot People in Debagoiena, placement of a monolith in Arrasate with the names (at that time 120 were known) of all the people shot and disappeared from Debagoiena Valley, at the same time that they were pays a great tribute.
• 2005 – We created Intxorta 1937 kultur elkartea together with memorialists from Eibar, Arrasate, Bergara, Elgeta, Oñati and Aretxabaleta.
• 2006 – Tribute in front of the monolith in Arrasate. Many of those who fought on the Fronts were still alive. A special mention is made to all the women that History has silenced.
• 2007 – We participated in the placement of the sculpture “Intxortako Atea”, on the slopes of the Intxorta mountains, carried out by the Basque Government and the Elgeta City Council.
• 2010 – In collaboration with the Elgeta City Council, we opened the Center for the Interpretation of Historical Memory in the Elgeta’s “Espaloia” café-theater and organized a tour of the trenches recovered in the Intxorta mountains.
This same year, our publishing house was born, having today 25 books and 6 Documentaries published, all of them related to the recovery of the memory. To carry out some projects we have had the help of different city councils, the Gogora Institute, the Basque Government, the Provincial Councils of Gipuzkoa and Araba, the General Councils of Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, and the Ministry of Interior of the Spanish government.
• 2012 – We joined the Basque Platform in favor of the Lawsuit against the crimes of the Franco regime. (René Cassin Award for Human Rights in 2015).
• Since 2013, every year we organize the Popular Recreation of what happened in 1937 in Intxorta and the Day of Resistance, in Elgeta (with the collaboration of the City Council, memory groups and the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council).
• 2015 – Tribute in Elgeta to the gudari (basque soldiers) and surviving militiamen. From this we began to collaborate with the photographer Mauro Saravia for the exhibition AZKEN BATAILOIA.
• 2016 – April 24, 2016. Tribute in Elgeta to resistant and reprisal women who faced the fascist military coup and those who fought and resisted during the dictatorship.
• 2017/2018 – The Emeek Emana exhibition runs through 17 Basque municipalities.
• 2019 – A great tribute is held in Arrasate to all the people retaliated by the military coup and the subsequent dictatorship. In addition, 6 new names are added (in the existing monolith) of victims of the Franco regime.
The book Towards a Shared Memory. Mondragón 1936-1956: War, Resistance and Francoism is published, fully subsidized by the Mondragón City Council and the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council.
• 2020 – The exile to which hundreds of people were subjected after the military coup and who were forced to flee to France, Belgium, Switzerland, Russia, England… is investigated in the Debagoiena valley. The tribute scheduled for April this year in Elgeta is suspended due to the pandemic.
• 2021/2022 – An agreement is signed with the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa so that the war boys and girls project is extended to the historic territory of Gipuzkoa. At this time, the investigation process and the collection of testimonies have begun through interviews with people who are still living.

The work and contributions of women:

• Arrasate 1936: Women, war and repression. (2nd prize at the XXXV Lekeitio Film Meeting).
• Remembering Teresa García, teacher. The Arrasate City Council unanimously approved, on June 6, 2013, Intxorta 1937 kultur elkartea’s proposal to include her name on a street in Arrasate that until then only bore that of her husband, maestro Félix Arano.
• Education, memory and history of Basque women. Feminist readings. (2015) Book. VV.AA.
• In 2016 we collected experiences, tours and life stories of 63 women. Their faces, testimonies and biographies have been captured in the work Emeek Emana, an exhibition that in 2017/2018 toured 17 towns in Gipuzkoa, Nafarroa and Araba.
• In 2018 we published the book 3M´s memory: The women of Gasteiz in the massacre of March 3, 1976, where the testimonies of women who witnessed the events are collected.
• In 2020 we coordinated, advised and published the comic Emakumeon Memoria 1937 – Intxortatik Artxandara ekimena, by Aiert Zubigarai, with the aim of addressing and highlighting the memory of women in war.
• We give talks and participate in conferences that address memory from a gender perspective.
